the very nice ones that
don’t fit. cram bare feet
in each and worse, arise,
teeter, pterodactyl, fierce
waddler, show off that baroque
nautical tattoo, lure in
crewcut steersman’s jilted
wife, a piratess with jaunty
shuffle. just let toes bleed if
it entertains.

a river bifurcates—trace
its blithe stutter, watery jester
at fernificent court, at war
with trees’ jittery chatter
admire etiquette of unwashed
thief in the delicate hunt
for mushrooms. see how neon
lichen adorn a sawn-off stump
and maple seeds descend
in ferocious pinwheel, jolly
blur a ruse to stay afloat
T R U S T
sniff at candied dino dust
sweet sentinel, await
your truant valentine,
spill stir-fry on the couch:
a jam jar breeds wet mold
queer rapture of rotten pear
whether what infest be theism
or abiotic synthesis, mutinous life
from honeyed juice. float
elsewhere, ecstatic feather,
accelerate a touch, waft
starward.

the tannic captain of our pleasure
cruise struts in weathered
livery, boa head bent to consider
which watery artery’ll hum
to us its eerie tune. we tilt forth,
a fine foam jest nestled
mid the crash of current. settle
in aft, see a queen’s cataract,
lush romancer fat with
frowsy, aerated flood.
if bid jump we
jettison.

tin citadel on shattered butte
delirious watchmen whistle
with antique crowbar our naif
hero wrestles jealous joint,
rids thee, captive endotherm,
of rusted manacles. first sin
once confessed has no echo—
you race westerly tête-à-tête
after a fifth february apart
watch wiry date palm jut free,
sunlit stamen
